About me

Joana Chai-Chang Azterbaum is an organizer, public policy advocate and movement professional with Chinese-Jamaican and Jewish-Argentine roots, from the Verdugo foothills of Los Angeles and Glendale, unceded Tongva and Fernandeรฑo Tataviam territories.๐ŸŒฑ

Her work throughout the years has been immersed in the intersectional issues of family policing, sex work decriminalization, LGBTQ and trans liberation, immigration, decarceration, anti-militarism and more.

She has worn many hats including as a Policy Advocate & Organizer with the ACLU of Southern California, Training & Development Coordinator at Dissenters, and Policy Associate at the Translatin@ Coalition.

She currently is a core leader with the Reimagine Child Safety Movement of Los Angeles and a boardmember with the National Trans Bar Association.

Her undergraduate studies at Pitzer College in Claremont, California, were focused at the intersection of Latin American and Caribbean Studies and Media Studies. In her spare time, she enjoys live music events, art making, and exploring new trails. ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ’•๐ŸŒ„๐ŸŽถ
